3rd Annual Education Resource Fair at PS 310

Posted on

As a partner in the education community, A+ Academy co-hosted an Education Resource Fair with the Chinese-American Planning Council, also known CPC, on May 19, 2018 at PS. 310. The event attracted nearly 300 attendees, including parents, students, and educators who gathered to obtain to understand the latest updates across the entire spectrum of New York City’s education process. This ranged from Pre-K for All, to statewide exams, regents, Specialized High School Admissions Test, PSAT, SAT, and more.

The event began with our keynote speaker and Principal of Stuyvesant High School, Eric Contreras, who welcomed a sea of audiences to insights and suggestion for parents and their children on the high school’s admission process. This includes specific subjects to focus their studies on, most notably English and Mathematics, and other avenues to increase their chances of scoring within the acceptance rank, such as private tutoring, practice exams, and reading materials.

Followed by his remark, nearly 100 students gathered upstairs in the designated classrooms to take practice exams hosted by A+ Academy. The exams averaged 2-3 hours, depending on the type of exam and their grade, and their results were mailed to the parents within the next week. The exam was proctored by staffs who were previously trained to simulate a real exam so that students become more comfortable and accustomed to the day of their actual exam. The practice of taking a mock SHSAT has proven to improve test scores and speed, as it minimizes stress and anxiety that could sometimes distract students from focusing on the exam.

Moreover, it is important for students to continuously benchmark their academic levels against their peers as it provides areas that need improvements. Each student was given a personal evaluation of their test scores analyzed by our proprietary computer system and also have the opportunity to return to our schools to better understand their results.

While the students were taking their exams, the Education Resource Fair had multiple workshops running for parents with children of all ages. They include Pre-K for All, Gifted and Talented Program, Specialized High School Admissions Test and High School Application Process and college admissions process.

This event is held annually and practice exams are provided all year round by A+ Academy. For more information, please email
